As he left, he thought to himself, "That is a horrible place, and I will never go back there again."

My Oscar Dream

On the night of March 1, the 76th Annual Academy Awards was shown on television. After watching it, I had a dream, a sudden wish, that some day, I could receive an Oscar award, or a nomination, for a movie I've made.

While I was schooling in Australia, my friends from school and I received a n assignment one day, "To make a ten to twenty minute movie on the topic of your choice." At the time, the trend was based around the popular Matrix movie trilogy, so that became our obvious choice.

Because our schedule was very tight, and it was a first time experience, we found it all very hard work, but when we released our production at school, it was worth it. After my friends and I showed the movie, we could not get from one end of the school to the other without getting congratulated about five or six times. We, especially I, were proud. We made a school-wide sensation.

From then on, I became obsessed with how to make movies and how filming is done. I just wanted to know about everyone and everything that has something to do with movies. I would watch a movie four to five times, just to find out how one camera angle, or special effect was produced. I found everything I watched quite amazing. I sometimes admired directors and producers of these films because the techniques they use are so smart. Their cleverness inspired me to make and act in movies.

When I become little bit older, I would like to attend a movie academy in Beijing or Shanghai, then America, or England, after some training and experience, I would like to make a movie, which will most likely be an action movie, which is my favorite kind of movie to watch.. If I am lucky, I hope I would get an Oscar Award for this movie. I think that would be quite a challenge, but it’s not impossible. For now, it’s back to watching movies over and over again for me!

The sustained damage to the environment has caused a serious problem, such as air pollution, sand storm, extraordinary weather, and diseases etc., people suffer from what they have done to the environment.

However. People have realized that it will be too late if they don’t do anything to prevent things from getting worse. For example, there is an “Earth Hour” on a Saturday of March of each year. It is a global movement, usually it lasts from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. It is also called “Light-off for One Hour”. During this hour, all the light will be turned off. The purpose of this movement is not only to save energy, but also to warn the people to realize the importance of protecting the mother earth, and to stop violating the environment.

Anyway, people and the environment have to keep a balance relationship. People take from the environment, and have to protect it too.

The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.

As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. I believe in all my fellow classmates. Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. 这一班学生在英语方面是我刚刚接手的,每个学生学习情况我还在不断的了解之中,其实在座的家长对自己子女的情况比我更加清楚。学生们都是在同一起跑线上起跑的,经过两年来的学习,学生与学生之间已经拉开了差距。一些好的学生学习兴趣浓,学习劲头足,课堂上积极思维,踊跃发言,课后及时巩固,形成了良性循环的好势头。他们的学习习惯好,在听、说、读、写方面都能齐头并进,我为他们感到欣慰。可也有一些学生,平时学习马虎,基础不扎实,功亏一篑,导致他们现在课上听讲出现困难,用他们自己的话说:“李老师上课,我听不懂。”听不懂,还不努力,书面作业拖拉不交,口头作业根本不完成,如此一来,学习自然成了件头痛事,麻烦事。其实,大部分的学生还是处于中间层次,老师所教的,所布置的作业能够基本完成,但学习的效率又因人而异,存在着个体差别。尽管他们平时不需要老师操太多的心,费太大的力,但是说起各方面的表现,又总有一丝遗憾,我们总希望他们能够再上一个台阶。

怎样帮助孩子学好英语呢?我们老师自然是最直接的知识传授者,有着不可推卸的责任。在此,我们只是真诚地呼吁我们的家长配合学校,配合老师,靠我们共同的努力来帮助孩子学好英语。用一句时髦的话说:我们要和孩子共同成长。

重视良好的学习习惯的培养

(1)让孩子多听录音在少儿英语教学中,首先是加强听力训练和说话训练,然后才是读写能力的培养。听说能力差,用英语进行交际的能力差,为此,家长一定要配合学校来要求孩子,要创造条件让孩子多听,多听纯正的录音,听几遍、听清楚了以后,跟着说。按照眼前利益来看,我们的升学考试也一年比一年注重听力、阅读等需要综合能力的部分。比如前年的听力占35分,去年就已经占40分了。

(2)让孩子大声说英语家长要每天留出15分钟左右时间让孩子读读英语,不管当天有无英语课。我们要鼓励孩子大声地朗读、对话、问答,大声说,不害羞,这样有利于清楚地表达自己,也有利于他人纠正自己的错误。

(3)让孩子熟练背诵课文和单词背诵是一项基本功,可以积累一些日常用语,到用的时等候就可以脱口而出。但是在背诵过程中要讲究方法,不可操之过急,要注意分散和集中相结合。我们一般是分段教课文,那就可以请学生分段背课文。等快教完的时候,再把课文串起来背,这样可以降低一点难度,让学生背得轻松些。但是在检查过程中,我们发现有一部分学生背得相当熟练,可问他课文中的某个词组或句子的意思时,他却一问三不知。所以,我们在背诵过程中要注意上下文的理解,在理解的基础上达到背诵的要求,课文中涉及到的相关词组和句型,要让学生熟记,并能用它们来造句、说话。

在具体的实施过程中发现:有些学生根本不用心学,能偷懒则偷懒,很多家长比较负责会查问有没有教新课,要不要默写,但孩子不老实,欺骗家长。这时候,你应该及时跟我联系,让孩子知道:欺骗不是办法,也会受到相应的惩罚。

单词亦是如此,分散记忆、根据读音记忆单词都是可取的方法。有时,我们回家布置抄写单词,其目的不在于抄,而在于提醒学生记忆这些单词。但是在日常学习中,学生不重视这项作业,认为只是抄抄而已,不做也没什么关系,其实他连抄写都不做,根本别说是去背了,结果几次下来,他负债累累,应付不过来,学习处于被动状态,从而影响了以后的学习,出现退步现象。因此,请大家在家里督促孩子保质保量地完成英语作业,该读的读、该说的说、该写的写、该记的记,及时巩固,养成良好的习惯。父母亲的良好榜样起着很大作用。孩子一般还没有明确的学习目的,这时,父母亲对学习的态度,特别是行为,会极大地影响孩子。

在默写单词、词组、课文的时候,有些会诱导父母:老师要求报英语,那家长就比较为难,一方面,自己根本不会读英语;另一方面,也只能帮助他作弊了。

其实,我们对默写的要求是这样的:单词、词组是要求家长报中文,课文是要求学生自己熟背然后默写的。千万不能纵容自己的孩子第一次说:英语好难,我默不出来;就任由他去。你让你的孩子知道:今天,你花大时间去养成好习惯,明天,你就可以更好。今天,你偷懒了一会,你明天的作业就会更多。累积下来,你就是欠债最多的人。孩子是每个家庭的重心和希望,有一位家长说过:“要把培养孩子当作自己的事业来做。”是啊,只要你多投入一点,相信你的孩子会给予你更多的回报!

Having fun

When having to make a choice most people think they have to choose between the two. Far too often people go for the latter and naturally choose fun. For instance many people would prefer watching television, or more commonly known as TV to exercising, we all know that it’s true, right? The problem is, if you don’t exercise you will become weak and ultimately out of shape and it is no fun to be out of shape, right? So the question is, why not turn exercise into fun?

As an example, if TV is your favorite thing to do, why not connect your TV set to an electric generator that is charged by a stationary bike, you know, the kind of bike you peddle, that doesn’t go anywhere. So think about it, the more you watch TV, the fitter you’ll be.

Now if you are the kind of person who thinks listening to music is fun and you spend many hours alone tap tap tapping your fingers and your toes to the beat, why not take it one step further and get up on your feet and dance, dance, dance.

Or maybe you’re the type of person who prefers being with your friends. There are many ways one could have fun with their pals. For instance you could just hang out and do nothing or better yet you could get into a friendly game of basketball or football there is no rule that says everyone has to be as good as Yao Ming or David Beckham, right?

However sometimes there just aren’t enough players, or you may even be alone in which case you could go for a ride on your bike, maybe, stop by the library to borrow a book, or go for a walk around the park and enjoy the sunshine and scenery. Before you know it, you’re having fun.

Let’s face it, exercise is work and when we think of work we think of thankless underpaid hardships yet it needn’t be this way, if we think of exercise as fun.

They are unable to meet their needs, even the basic needs of survival! Everyone, as a member of humanity, shouldn't feel ashamed? Our luxury deprived their lives, our indifference violated our soul, and our barbarity destroyed human civilization!

What's the ideal society? It's a society no one worries about their living, a society no one is refused from education, a society everyone can pursue his/her own happiness! The ideal society is filled with love, joy and kindness. In that society, we can touch the other's hearts, we can share our dreams and most important, we can just be the true men!

Let's break the ethnic divide, bridge the gap between rich and poor, hand in hand, to build a Great wall, protecting us from evil; to construct a steady bridge, connecting reality to the ideal society! Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease, says the World Health Organisation.

According to their figures, it is responsible for approximately five million deaths worldwide every year.

Tobacco smoking is a known or probable cause of approximately 25 diseases, and even the WHO says that its impact on world health is not fully assessed.

Heart attack and stroke

UK studies show that smokers in their 30s and 40s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers.

Tobacco contributes to the hardening of the arteries, which can then become blocked and starve the heart of bloodflow, causing the attack.

Often, smokers who develop this will require complex and risky heart bypass surgery.

If you smoke for a lifetime, there is a 50% chance that your eventual death will be smoking-related - half of all these deaths will be in middle age.

Smoking also increases the risk of having a stroke.

Lung problems

Another primary health risk associated with smoking are lung cancer, which kills more than 20,000 people in the UK every year.

US studies have shown that men who smoke increase their chances of dying from the disease by more than 22 times.

Women who smoke increase this risk by nearly 12 times.

Lung cancer is a difficult cancer to treat - long term survival rates are poor.

Smoking also increases the risk of oral, uterine, liver, kidney, bladder, stomach, and cervical cancers, and leukaemia.

Another health problem associated with tobacco is emphysema, which, when combined with chronic bronchitis, produces chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

he lung damage which causes emphysema is irreversible, and makes it extremely difficult to breathe.

Harm to children

Smoking in pregnancy greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, is associated with lower birthweight babies, and inhibited child development.

Smoking by parents following the birth is linked to sudden infant death syndrome, or cot death, and higher rates of infant respiratory illness, such as bronchitis, colds, and pneumonia.

Nicotine, an ingredient of tobacco, is listed as an addictive substance by the US authorities.

Although the health risks of smoking are culmulative, giving up can yield health benefits regardless of the age of the patient, or the length of time they have been smoking.

Future impact

By 20xx, the WHO expects the worldwide death toll to reach 10 million, causing 17.7% of all deaths in developed countries.

There are believed to be 1.1 billion smokers in the world, 800 million of them in developing countries.

随着时代的发展和社会的进步,英语已从一种工具变成了一种思想,一种知识库。没有掌握英语犹如缺乏一种思想,缺少了一个重要的知识源泉。可以这样说,学会英语,不但多了一双眼睛,一对耳朵,和一条舌头,甚至是多了一个头脑!因为语言是人类思维的工具,认识世界的工具,掌握一种语言也即掌握了一种观察和认识世界的方法和习惯。

从事初中教学工作的我,结合日常工作中的点点滴滴,总结以下几点反思:

反思一、靠持续不断的语言知识,而不是“玩”来培养学生持久的兴趣

初中英语教学是要重视培养兴趣,但单靠唱歌游戏不能培养学生持久的兴趣。新鲜劲儿一过,孩子们就会厌倦。所以,唱歌游戏应该作为初中学生学习英语语言知识、技能的一些手段,而不是培养兴趣的手段。我们可以采用多种手段帮助学生在记忆力强的时期多记单词,多学习语言规则,并尽可能多创造模仿的机会,提高学生的语音和语调。在英语学习中,听、说、读、写、译五种能力是可以互补的。真正做到听说先行,读写跟上。光听说不读写,很难收到高效。只靠模仿不培养学习能力,也难减轻学习负担。所以初中学生还是应当认真进行语言学习。

反思二、英语应用能力需要相应的词汇。

“不学习语言规则、不掌握相当数量的词汇,英语应用能力就是空中楼阁”。目前在中学的低年级的英语教学中,不要求学生掌握词汇,而只要求学生能根据提示或图片说出该单词,其本质无非是要学生们死记硬背,鹦鹉学舌。由于学生们没有相应的读音规则训练,不熟悉词汇的拼写规则,单词的音、形、意三者不能有效的结合在一起,因而导致了单词记忆的困难,并成了中学生学英语的瓶颈。

反思三、中学英语教师应有发展意识

一向以来,人们中学英语教师的语言知识能力要求不高,认为中学英语简单,不需要太好的语言功底,只要有良好的教学技能就可以了。其实时代在进步,社会在发展,同样英语作为人们最广泛的交际用语之一,更是随着高科技的迅猛发展而日新月异地变化着。如果我们的英语教师故步自封,不求进取,那么不但自己的语言知识很快陈旧落伍,误人子弟,而且会被时代所淘汰。

“Changing English in the changing world”。现代英语的变化,特别是口语方面的变化可从以下几个方面体现出来:

1、随着人们生活节奏的不断加快,更因为国际互联网的形成,人们之间的交际变得越来越简捷。说话简单快捷,是现代人生活的一大特征。现代英语在这方面的变化表现为“一字多用”。

2、随着现代科学技术的迅猛发展,现代英语词汇急剧增加,并且我们发现,现代英语词汇有相当一部分是取得新义的旧词,如,“input”(输入电子计算机的数据),“store”(电子计算机的储存器),“drive”(计算机驱动器)等。

3、英国英语和美国英语之间的距离越来越小。也许是美国对世界政治、经济影响日益强大的原因,美国英语的影响也越来越大,特别是对青少年的影响越来越大,他们以使用美语和发美国音为时髦。

4、口语不断侵入书面语。学过英语的人都知道,英语有正式、非正式、书面语,口语,方言,俚语之分,然而当今它们之间相互渗透的现象越来越普遍。

我们的英语教师不跟上时代的步伐不坚持不断地学习和接受新事物,不了解现代英语发展的现状和趋势,那么,我们所教出来的学生一旦离开学校走向社会,他们会发现他们所学的英语是多么bookish(书呆子气)。而教师自己则可能甚至连小学生们所津津乐道的一些常用语也可能会出现理解性的错误。

反思四、中学英语教师应有文化意识

在中学英语的教学中,因为课文的简单易懂,所含的信息量少的缘故,很多中学英语教师忽视了文化对语言的影响,而导致了一些语言情景的不真实,和虚假的语言的产生。

跨文化交际意识的培养,是英语教学的一个重要组成部分。词汇是文化信息的主要浓缩。对英语词汇的准确理解,和对语言环境的认识和创设和把握,需要对文化的比较深刻的理解。外族文化知识的获得,主要是通过对该族文化历史的研究和学习,通过对该族语言文学作品的研读,通过对该族文化生活习惯、生活方式的了解。而读原版英语经典著作的学习,是达到这三条的捷径。

反思五、中学英语教师应有情感意识

从教育心理学的角度看,学习过程中影响学习效果的最大因素之一是学习者的情感控制。近几十年来,人们越来越意识到在英语学习过程中,学习者的情感因素,包括动机和态度等对英语学习的效果乃至成败起到相当大的作用。如何将素质教育理论引入外语教学是当前外语教学战线的一大课题。英语学习成功的因素中,除了智力因素外,更重要的是那些非智力因素的作用。

英语教师的教学重点是放在教学内容,教学大纲和考试形式上呢,还是将教学注重点转移到学生的性格、兴趣、情绪等方面的培养和控制?这是,现代教育思想转变的重大原则问题。事实证明,认为自己“民主、开放、平静、友好、体贴、乐于助人、聪明、富于逻辑性和快乐”的人,一般来说,其学习英语成功的可能性要大于与上述性格相反或相差极大的学习者。另外,在外语学习过程中,由于外界因素的影响,学习者会出现焦虑沮丧烦躁不安等情况,英语教师作为教学活动的组织者,应注意对外语学习者情感因素的培养和控制。尤其是在中学的低年级阶段,英语教师要培养对学生的亲近感。在课堂教学中英语教师要十分尊重学生,注意激励学生,关注学生学习过程。在当前“减负”工作中,英语教师尤其要注意体察学生在课堂上的心理感受,亲近学生,使学生喜爱英语教师和英语课,从而提高英语课堂教学的效益。

The third door is the door to lifelong learning. As new ideas appear all the time, we always need to acquire new knowledge, regardless of our age. Naturally, my aunt herself is the best example. Many of my aunt's contemporaries say that she is amazingly up-to-date for a middle-aged woman. She simply responds,“Age doesn't matter. What matters is your attitude. You may think it's strange that I am still going to college, but I don't think I'm too old to learn.”Yes, she is right. Since the government removed the age limit for college admissions in 20xx, there are already some untraditional students, sitting with us in the same classrooms. Like these people, my aunt is old but she is very young in spirit. With her incredible energy and determination, she embodies both tradition and modernity.

The doors open to us also pose challenges. For instance, we are faced with the challenge of a balanced learning, the challenge of preserving our fine tradition while learning from the West, and the challenge of learning continuously while carrying heavy responsibilities to our work and family. So, each door is a test of our courage, ability and judgment, but with the support of my teachers, parents, friends and my aunt, I believe I can meet the challenge head on. When I reach my aunt's age, I can be proud to say that I have walked through dozens of doors and will, in the remainder of my life, walk through many more. Possibly I will go back to college, too.
