I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao TongUniversity, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, Iam writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.
Education background
In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology(NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. Duringthe following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished amongthe whole department. When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began tonarrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL andMatlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. Itis now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilleda sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. Thiswas my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.
In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory andeXPerience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future researchinterests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research(especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network.

现在，越来越多的小学生，小小年纪就戴上了眼镜，大部分都是沉迷于网络引起的。有许多家长不起好带头作用，天天埋在电脑旁打游戏，让孩子也受到影响。我们小组因此展开了讨论会。
一位同学说：“长期沉迷于网络，会导致学生的成绩下降，上课不安心听讲，回家后不认真写作业。”
另一位同学说：“沉迷网络有许多坏处，会把我们推进无底的深渊。有的人整天和网络游戏打交道，导致视力下降，还会影响学习。”
“有的青年天天泡在网吧里，长期沉迷电脑网络，浪费了青春，导致不可挽回的地步。”
“网络虽然给我们带来了许多方便，但网络却有着很大的危害。它诱惑着许多小学生、青年人，一迷上了它，就会造成不好的后果。只要大家不是长期玩游戏，偶尔玩一玩，影响也不大。”
一位同学又说：“有些游戏需要钱，有的同学没有，就会向家长要，造成不良的习惯。”
“网络上有很多骗子，一些人相信了花言巧语，被别人诈骗。有些学生，沉迷于网络，提防心也不强，很容易被骗。”
我也忍不住地说：“过度的沉迷于网络游戏，会导致学生对网络的依赖、意志力下降，还会产生一种‘孤僻症’，冷漠地对待他人。这对学生伤害极大。”
听了同学们你一言我一语的精彩讨论，我们更加清醒地认识到沉迷网络游戏的危害。我们要从小做起，少接近网络游戏，多做些对身体有益的活动、游戏等，千万不要沉迷于网络!
